For my mid-point academic paper I, together with three fellow students, examined how the fictional character Jerry is portrayed in the Swedish commercial series ICA-såpan. The actor who plays Jerry has Downs Syndrome and we wanted to see if his appearance could help normalize people with these kind of disabilities in society, or if ICA had made him a stereotype in line with existing discourses. Below is a summary of our analysis and conclusions.
